Becoming a Mother: A Partnership With God
by Angela Haliday
Honestly, this is what I was born to do! Having a baby--partnering with my eternal companion and Heavenly Father to help a special spirit receive a body is truly the most amazing thing I’ve ever done. Having the blessing of experiencing this 5 times are easily the most rewarding and amazing moments in my life.
When our first child was born 22 years ago, I was unprepared for how much it would change me. Sarah was 7 lb. 9 oz. and 19 ½ in. long with lots of black hair and arrived after many hours of labor (and hard work it was!). The delivery room was full of the Spirit—among the strongest I have ever felt it. The connection of heaven and earth is strong and tangible when a baby is born, and each of my children’s births are evidence of that to me. I felt light, peace, calm, comfort, love, and unparalleled joy.
Because I knew that this beautiful little one was a gift from God, I instantly treasured her. As I learned that the responsibility we are given when we choose to become parents is paramount, my appreciation deepened. Love is the greatest attribute of all, of course, and the instant love I felt toward her, toward my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and FROM her and FROM the Lord have made me better. I hope that this love continues to transform me into becoming the person that God knows I can be. But more importantly, the love of a baby, the joy of their arrival, and the beauty of helping an essential part of Heavenly Father’s plan be accomplished, has led me to passionately desire her, my other babies, my husband, and really everyone to be able to return to live with God again.
The experiences of carrying and delivering and raising five precious babies cannot be described adequately. I am profoundly grateful to my Heavenly Father who loves me and loves us all. Helping a spirit receive a body is heavenly work, which I am eternally grateful for having been able to perform.
