Who is Jesus Christ?

Who is Jesus Christ?

Who is Jesus Christ?

By Kathy Penrod

How do you begin to write about the most important person in the history of the world? So much has already been written about Jesus Christ that I know I cannot bring anything new to the table. But, I can add my testimony to that of others who declare that Jesus Christ is the living son of God.

Voices in the world will tell you that while Jesus may have lived on the earth at one time, He was only a man. They will tell you He may have been a good man - a rabbi, a teacher - but he had no divine or miraculous birth. They may tell you that the account of His life in the New Testament is exaggerated or incorrect. But all of this would be false.

You can learn facts about Jesus. You can know that he was born in Bethlehem (Luke 2:4-7), lived in exile in Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15) and came from the town of Nazareth (Matthew 2:23). You can learn that His earthly father may have been a carpenter (Matthew 13:55) and that by age 12, Jesus was smart enough to converse with other rabbis and teachers in the temple (Luke 2:42-47). You can learn that He began His ministry when he was in His about 30 (Luke 3:23) and died by crucifixion (John 19).

From the very beginning, prophets of old have prophesied of Jesus Christ. In the garden of Eden, God tells Satan that He will put enmity between him and the seed of the woman. (Genesis 3:15)  The seed is referring to Jesus Christ. From there, it continues. Deuteronomy, Psalms, Isaiah, and many more books of scripture all reference the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. (If you are interested in all the scriptures that prophesy about Christ, you can find them here.)

We also know from scriptures that Jesus Christ has many names. Some of those names are Savior, Redeemer, Son of God, Bread of Life, Light of the World, The Good Shepherd and so many more. You can find a more comprehensive list here.

The simple truth of all of this is that Jesus Christ is, in fact, the Son of God. He came to this earth in a divinely orchestrated manner; born of a virgin mother. During His ministry on earth, He performed many miracles, healing hearts and bodies. His purpose is to redeem us from our sins and pave the pathway back to our Heavenly Father. Consequently, He suffered in Gethsemane and was crucified on the cross. He did this to save us all from sorrow, sin, and death.

Jesus Christ wants us to return to Him and our Heavenly Father after this life. His life was spent setting an example for us to follow. From baptism to compassion, He showed us how to live our lives so we can return to Heavenly Father. His love for us is so complete and all encompassing. He wants our eternal happiness and is pleased when we follow God’s laws.

When it comes down to it, you can learn facts and details about Jesus Christ. But to really get to know who He is, you must spend time on your knees, in prayer. He is there to carry us, to lift us, to give us hope. He will not leave us without hope or comfort. Take time to come to know who Jesus Christ really is. Your life will forever be changed.
